Inland Pacific Ballet’s Educational Outreach Program has experienced sustained and resounding success since it began in 1992, consistently serving 6,000-8,000 K-12 students and teachers each year. With support from schools that participate, and funding from corporations, foundations and individuals the program continues to thrive. Together we have made the Educational Outreach Program available to more than 150,000 young people from public, private and home schools during the past 22 years. Of the 52 public school districts that have participated, more than 61% serve economically disadvantaged families. For many of these students, coming to see a live ballet performance is powerful first theater experience that expands their view of the world they live in. At a time when regular arts education in schools has declined, A Young Person’s Guide to the Ballet makes the performing arts accessible to all children in our culturally diverse communities.

With seats as low as $9 per person IPB’s Educational Outreach Program remains one of the most affordable performing arts experiences in the region. The program provides young people with an introduction to a world of culture and tradition, which might otherwise be unavailable to them. The experience sets the stage for a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

The goal of Inland Pacific Ballet’s Educational Outreach Program is to present ballet to young people in a way that will have an enduring impact on their lives. Through A Young Person’s Guide to the Ballet (YPGB) youth will see that the world of ballet is not elitist, but speaks to them powerfully and directly. The program engages students in the art of storytelling through dance with movement participation from their seats, and a performance by the professional Company. To further connect learning through the arts, free study-guides for each production are available for use in the classroom before and after the performance.

With the decline of arts education in public schools, Inland Pacific Ballet’s Educational Outreach Program is a vital cultural resource for children in the visual, musical, and movement arts in the greater Los Angeles region and the Inland Empire. Inland Pacific Ballet promotes the unique power of the performing arts to nourish our communities by enriching the lives of our children.
