Synopsis
ACT I
In a Village square, everyone is busy shopping in preparation for a rumored Royal Ball where the Prince will choose his bride from one of the lucky girls in attendance. Cinderella has been sent to do the shopping for her Stepmother and Stepsisters, for as a servant girl, she has not been invited to the Ball. The Stepmother and Stepsisters arrive, quarreling as usual, and make Cinderella carry all their packages. The Prince and his Footmen are also in the square, disguised as Villagers. The Prince and Footmen show off to the crowd in a lively dance and invite all Villagers to join their fun.
On their way home, The Prince officially announces the Royal Ball at which time he plans to find his bride. As they are handing out the invitations The Prince makes eye contact with Cinderella. The Stepmother witnesses the amorous glance between the Prince and Cinderella and will have none of it, she pushes Cinderella away to make room for her daughters. The Prince is enchanted by Cinderella.
In the parlor of Cinderella’s house, preparations are underway for the Ball. The Stepsisters are bickering over what to wear, running Cinderella ragged with demands. The Dancing Master arrives to give them some last-minute coaching, and one of the Stepsisters finds him very attractive. When he departs, the Stepsisters plot how to keep Cinderella from going to the ball. Cinderella tries to busy herself, but soon she is lost in a daydream. Birds and mice come to visit her and help sew her a dress for the Ball. When leaving for the Ball the Stepsisters see the dress and tear it apart. Upon seeing this, the Birds bring Cinderella her Fairy Godmother. Greeting Cinderella, she tells her she will be going to the Ball in the most beautiful dress of all, and with a wave of her wand, she transforms the parlor into a magic place.
Beautiful Fairies and an array of sparkling Stars appear and dance for Cinderella. The Fairy Godmother magically transforms Cinderella’s ragged dress into a beautiful ball gown, and the Stars adorn her with a brilliant necklace, flowing cape and pair of exquisite glass slippers. With a final wave of her magic wand, the Fairy Godmother makes a magnificent coach appear to transport Cinderella to the Ball. The Fairy Godmother warns Cinderella that she must depart the Ball before the stroke of midnight.
ACT II
As the curtain opens, the Ball is underway. The Stepmother and Stepsisters arrive just in time to join the line of Princesses who will meet the Prince. He dances with each one in turn, but none of them strike his fancy. Then Cinderella’s coach appears. All eyes are on Cinderella as she steps out of the coach and enters the ballroom. No one seems to recognize this mysterious and most beautiful princess. The prince is completely enchanted and asks her to dance. As the other guests continue to dance Cinderella and the Prince stroll out. As if in a dream, Cinderella and the Prince dance alone together.
Rejoining the festivities, Cinderella forgets the time, and just as the Prince is about to propose, the clock strikes midnight. There is great confusion. Cinderella runs out, and in her hurry, she drops one of her glass slippers. The prince picks it up realizing it is his only clue to finding his true love. He leaves with his Sidekick and the Dancing Master, determined to find her.
The Prince, Footmen, and Dancing Master search in vain for the girl who will fit the glass slipper.
Cinderella arrives home, breathless and weary, back in ragged clothes, without carriage or jewels. The only thing left to remind her of the ball is her one glass slipper. Thinking she will never see the prince again; she begins to cry. Hearing her family returning, she runs to her little chimney corner. The Stepmother and Stepsisters arrive home, and excitedly recount all the events of the Ball while Cinderella pretends to be amazed. Then the Prince arrives to try the slipper on each girl in the household, but it fits neither the stepsister nor the Stepmother. Finally, it is Cinderella’s turn to try it on, and the slipper fits her exactly. Completely shocked, the Stepmother and Stepsisters faint on the spot and are revived by the Dance Master and the Sidekick. Cinderella draws from her treasure box the matching slipper and explains that she was the mysterious Princess from the Ball. The Stepsisters beg her pardon for all their former unkindness, and Cinderella forgives them. The Prince declares his love for Cinderella. The Stepmother and Stepsisters travel to the Prince’s palace which will be Cinderellas new home.
Everyone is gathered at the Palace for the wedding of Cinderella and the Prince. The stepsisters are there with their new fiancés, and the Stars dance in celebration. The royal couple is married by the Fairy Godmother, and they all live happily ever after.
