Inland Pacific Ballet's

The K-12 Student Experience

What to Expect at a
school outreach Performance

Arriving at the theater

Upon your arrival, bus drivers, students and teachers will be met by theater staff and/or IPB volunteers who will guide groups to designated waiting areas, where the lead teacher will check-in and provide a total number of persons in your group. The Theater House Manager handles the seating and ensures that all groups are seated by performance time. Groups arriving late may be seated in the back of the theater if the program has begun.

Ushers will take your group into the theater to your seats. Groups or individual students with special needs requiring specific accommodations should speak with the Education Coordinator in advance to ensure each student has the best experience possible.

What students will experience

  • An introduction to stagecraft and the magic of live theater with lavish sets, costumes and lighting.
  • A view of the empty stage and demonstration of how the artistic director, lighting designer and stage crew work together to transform the space and set the scenes for telling the story.
  • An introduction to the original literature on which the production is based.
  • A lesson from the director about how dancers tell a story without words, sometimes using pantomime, with demonstrations by several dancers ages 6-18 who will be performing.
  • A performance of the selected production by Inland Pacific Ballet’s professional dance company.
  • Guided movement from the choreography along with music and audience participation where adults and students “dance in their seats.”
  • A post-performance question and answer session with the director (time permitting).
